Steering Column - Removal and Installation

1984---88 Corvette
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove pinch bolt from universal coupling.
3. Remove lower steering column attaching bolt and the two capsule bolts.
4. Disconnect all electrical connectors from steering column.
5. Remove steering column assembly from vehicle.

1. Position steering column in vehicle and guide column shaft into intermediate shaft U-joint, Fig. 9. Install bolt and torque to 46 lb ft
2. Loosely attach column to studs on dash and toe panel with washers and nuts to instrument panel reinforcement assembly nuts. Torque nuts to specifications, Fig. 9.
3. Install pinch bolt to flex coupling and torque to 35 lb ft
4. Connect all electrical connectors to columns, then reconnect battery ground cable.
