Defect and Vehicles Involved
General Motors has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain early production 1984 Corvettes. The front brake caliper bracket to steering knuckle attaching bolts may loosen and fall out. The front brake caliper may then become partially detached from the knuckle assembly and may cause the wheel to lock. Should this occur while the vehicle is in motion, it could result in a loss of control, a vehicle crash could occur without prior warning. To prevent the possibility of this condition occurring, Chevrolet Dealers are to replace the front brake caliper bracket to steering knuckle attaching bolts on all involved vehicles in accordance with the Service Procedure as outlined in this campaign bulletin.
