Charge Air Cooling System Leak Testing
Special Tools
* J 24460-01 - Cooling System Pressure Tester
* J 46143 - Cooling System Adapter
Warning
To avoid being burned, do not remove the charge air coolant cap while the engine is hot. The cooling system will release scalding fluid and steam under pressure if the charge air coolant cap is removed while the engine and charge air cooling systems are still hot.
1. Remove the charge air coolant pressure cap.
2. Test the operation of the charge air coolant pressure cap. Refer to Charge Air Cooling System Pressure Cap Testing Charge Air Cooling System Pressure Cap Testing.
3. Wash the charge air coolant pressure cap mating surface with water.
4. Use the J 24460-01 - cooling system pressure tester (1) with J 46143 - cooling system adapter (2) in order to apply pressure to the charge air cooling system.
Do not exceed the pressure cap rating.
5. The charge air cooling system should hold the rated pressure for at least 2 minutes.
Observe the gauge for any pressure loss.
6. Repair any leaks as required.
