SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 8
SIR DISABLING AND ENABLING ZONE 8
DISABLING PROCEDURE
IMPORTANT: Refer to SIR Service Precautions.
1. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle wheels are pointing straight ahead.
2. Place the ignition in the OFF position.
3. Open the hood and locate the underhood fuse center (1) on right/passenger side.
IMPORTANT: This inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) has 2 fused power inputs. To ensure there is no unwanted SIR deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs, remove both AIR BAG (IGN) and SIR (BATT) fuses. With the AIR BAG fuses removed and the ignition switch in the ON position, the AIR BAG warning indicator illuminates. This is normal operation, and does not indicate an SIR system malfunction.
4. Lift the cover for the underhood fuse center.
5. Locate and remove the Air Bag fuse from the underhood fuse center.
6. Remove the rear seat.
7. Locate the rear fuse center under rear seat, then remove the fuse center top cover.
8. Remove the SIR fuse from the rear fuse center.
9. Remove the trim molding from the rear quarter pillar.
10. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the roof rail module - left connector.
11. Disconnect the roof rail module - left connector from the vehicle harness connector.
12. Remove the lower center pillar trim.
13. Remove the CPA (6) from the seat belt retractor pretensioner - LF connector (5).
14. Disconnect the seat belt retractor pretensioner - LF connector (5) from the seat belt retractor pretensioner - LF (4).
15. Remove the left/driver lower insulator panel from the instrument panel (I/P).
16. Remove both CPAs (4, 5) from the steering wheel module coil connector (2) and I/P module connector (1).
17. Disconnect the steering wheel module coil connector (2) from the vehicle harness connector (6).
18. Disconnect the I/P module connector (3) from the vehicle harness connector (1).
19. Remove the lower center pillar trim.
20. Remove the CPA (6) from the seat belt retractor pretensioner - RF connector (5).
21. Disconnect the seat belt retractor pretensioner - RF connector (5) from the seat belt retractor pretensioner - RF (4).
22. Remove the trim molding from the rear quarter pillar.
23. Remove the CPA from the roof rail module - right connector.
24. Disconnect the roof rail module - right connector from the vehicle harness connector.
