Clock Malfunction
CLOCK MALFUNCTION
DIAGNOSTIC FAULT INFORMATION
IMPORTANT: Always perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle prior to using this diagnostic procedure. Testing and Inspection
CIRCUIT/SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) is equipped with an analog clock. The analog clock utilizes the clock battery positive voltage circuit and the clock ground circuit to operate. An open circuit condition, a high resistance or a short to ground in the battery positive circuit or the ground circuit will cause the clock not to operate properly.
CIRCUIT/SYSTEM TESTING
1. With the ignition OFF disconnect the clock.
2. Connect a test lamp between the clock battery positive voltage circuit and a good ground.
3. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.
- If the test lamp does not illuminate, check the clock battery positive voltage circuit for a short to ground, an open or a high resistance.
- If the test lamp illuminates, check the clock ground circuit for an open or a high resistance.
- If both the clock battery positive voltage circuit and the clock ground circuit tests normal, replace the analog clock.
REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS
IMPORTANT: Always perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic procedure.
