Troubleshooting Hints

PERFORM BEFORE BEGINNING SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS
IMPORTANT:
^ The "Set To Get Cruise" feature requires the operator to set the initial set speed by using the "Set/Coast" button before the "Resume/Accel" slider switch input will be recognized.
^ The "Brake Before Cruise" feature requires the Cruise Control Module to see Terminal "D" change states once each Ignition cycle before allowing Cruise Control. Some Cruise Control Modules will use either Terminal "D" or "G."
^ If "TRACTION ENGAGED" Indicator is activated by the Electronic Brake and Traction Control Module (EBTCM), cruise operation will drop out.
1. Check that Cruise Control Module Linkage is connected and moving freely.
2. Check Cruise Cable Adjustment.
3. If CKT 17 is open between the Cruise Control Module and S237, the Cruise Control System will be inoperative.
4. Check for any Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). If any VSS DTC's are present, refer to Computers and Control Systems. Computers and Control Systems
5. Make sure that CKT 17 is working properly. If inoperative, Cruise Control Module will be disabled.
6. "TRACTION ENGAGED" Indicator bulb has to be "good" for Cruise Control to function.
^ Cruise performance can be affected by trailer towing and steep grades.
^ Cruise will not function with hazards "ON."
^ Check for a broken (or partially broken) wire inside of the insulation which could cause system malfunction but prove "GOOD" in a continuity/voltage check with a system disconnected. These circuits may be intermittent or resistive when loaded, and if possible, should be checked by monitoring for a voltage drop with the system operational (under load).
^ Check for proper installation of aftermarket electronic equipment which may affect the integrity of other systems (see Troubleshooting Procedures). Diagnostic Aids
^ Refer to System Diagnosis.
