Steering Wheel: Service and Repair

1. Remove inflatable restraint steering wheel module assembly.
2. Remove nut. When removing steering wheel assembly, use only specified steering wheel puller. Under no conditions should end of steering shaft be hammered on, as hammering could loosen plastic injections which maintain steering column rigidity. When attaching puller bolts tool No. J-1859-A or equivalent and puller tool No. J 38720, or equivalents, to steering wheel, use care to prevent threading bolts all the way through steering wheel hub into air bag coil and damaging coil.
3. Remove steering wheel.
4. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Align block tooth on steering wheel with block tooth on steering shaft within one female serration.
b. Torque steering wheel nut to 30 ft. lbs.
