Fuel Tank Unit: Service and Repair

Fuel Sender Assembly And Fuel Tank:




Fuel Sender Assembly Disassembly (Typical):






REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Negative battery cable.

2. Relieve fuel system pressure. Refer to Service and Repair/Fuel System Pressure Relief.

3. Drain fuel tank. Refer to Fuel Tank/Service and Repair/Fuel Tank Draining.

4. Fuel tank. Refer to Fuel Tank/Service and Repair/Fuel Tank Replacement.

5. Fuel sender assembly attaching nuts (6) (Refer to accompanying image for numbered references), retaining flag, fuel sender assembly and 0-ring from fuel tank. Discard 0-ring.

NOTE: Always replace fuel sender assembly 0-ring when reinstalling fuel sender assembly.

INSTALL OR CONNECT.

IMPORTANT: Care should be taken not to fold over or twist the fuel pump strainer when installing the fuel sender assembly as this will restrict fuel flow. Also, assure that the fuel pump strainer does not block full travel of float arm.

1. Position new 0-ring on fuel tank.

2. Fuel sender assembly, retaining flag and fuel sender assembly attaching nuts (6). Tighten fuel sender assembly attaching nuts (6) to 3 Nm (27 in lb).

3. Fuel tank.

4. Add fuel and install fuel filler cap.

5. Negative battery cable.

INSPECT
^ Turn ignition switch to "ON" position for two seconds, then turn to "OFF" for ten seconds. Again turn to "ON" position and check for fuel leaks.
