SUBJECT: FLUID LEVEL INDICATOR COMES OUT OF BORE - 5 SPEED

MODELS AFFECTED: 1988 CIMARRONS WITH MANUAL 5 SPEED TRANSAXLE

FIGURE 1 - FLUID LEVEL INDICATOR ASSEMBLY:

Some early 1988 Cimarrons equipped with a manual 15 speed transaxle (HM-282) may experience a fluid leak at the level indicator assembly (Figure 1).

This condition is caused by inadequate sealing of the plug to the case bore where the finish is too smooth for effective retention. This may allow the plug to move "up" and out of the bore when the cam lock is actuated.

FIGURE 2 - INCREASED CROSSHATCHED AREA:

To repair this condition, test retention by trying to pull out the indicator (with the cam-lock on). If the indicator pulls out, install the updated design fluid level indicator assembly, P/N 22540197. The updated design has four grooves on the plug to help "grab" the bore. The updated design also has an expanded "OK" fluid level section that is crosshatched (Figure 2).
