Steering Column - Removal and Installation


















Remove or Disconnect
1. Negative battery cable.
2. Left dash close-out panel.
3. Column wiring connector from LH hardshell grommet.
4. Park lock cable from ignition switch.
5. Bolt connecting steering shaft to intermediate shaft.
6. Bolts and nut connecting steering column to I.P. bracket.

Important: When removing column, the lower column bracket nut and bolt must be removed first. After removing lower bolts, remove upper column bracket bolts. Failure to remove lower nut and bolt first may result in a cracked lower bearing casting.

7. Column from car.


















Install or Connect
1. Steering column mounting bolts and nut.

Important: When installing column, loosely install the upper column bracket bolts first. Before tightening upper bracket bolts, install lower column nuts and bolt. Failure to install upper bolts first may result in a cracked lower bearing casting.

2. Intermediate shaft coupling to steering column shaft. Tighten Intermediate shaft bolt to 47 N.m (35 lb ft). Steering column mounting bolts to 27 N.m (20 lb ft).
3. Park lock cable to ignition switch.
4. Column wiring connector to LH hardshell grommet.
5. Dash close-out panel.
6. Negative battery cable.
