Digital trip and seasonal odometers are included with the digital speed readout. The seasonal odometer information is stored in a nonvolatile memory chip which is removable for transfer to a remanufactured unit. The digital cluster can detect problems with the memory chip and displays the word "error" on the odometer display. Tampering with the chip or mileage accumulation over 1 million miles or kilometers will cause the error message to appear. Care should be taken to protect the memory chip from ESD (Electro-Static Discharge) when transferring the chip to a remanufactured cluster.
