Air Injection - Check Valve Corrosion Problem

87cad6
Bulletin No. T 88-1
File in Group 6E
Number 50
Corp. Ref. No. 676515
Date Sept '87
SUBJECT: 5.0L V-8 (LV2) A.I.R. CHECK VALVES

MODELS AFFECTED: 1986 FLEETWOOD BROUGHAM

Some 1986 Cadillac Fleetwood Broughams, equipped with the 5.0L V-8 (LV2) engine, may have been inadvertently manufactured with a zinc dichromate plated (gold colored) air injection reaction (A.I.R.) check valve instead of a stainless steel (silver colored) valve.

Although the two valves function identically, the zinc dichromate (gold colored) valve may experience premature corrosion and fail within the 5 year/50,000 mile emission components defect warranty.

This will result in an underhood fluttering or rattling sound.

To repair this condition, the stainless steel (silver colored) check valve should be installed in place of the zinc dichromate (gold colored) valve.
