Pinion and Ring Gear Inspection





1. Clean the pinion gear in solvent.
2. Inspect the pinion gear for the following conditions:
^ Unusual gear teeth wear, pitting or heat discoloration (1)
^ Pinion splines for wear, pitting or twisted splines (2)
^ Pinion shaft thread condition (3)





3. Clean the ring gear in solvent.
4. Inspect the ring gear for the following conditions:
^ Damage to the threaded holes (1)
^ Unusual wear or heat discoloration to the gear teeth (2)
