SIR DISABLING AND ENABLING ZONE 9

DISABLING PROCEDURE

IMPORTANT: Refer to SIR Service Precautions.




1. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle's wheels are pointing straight ahead.
2. Turn OFF the ignition.
3. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
4. Remove the I/P fuse block cover.

IMPORTANT: With the SIR Fuse removed and the ignition ON, the AIR BAG indicator illuminates. This is normal operation, and does not indicate an SIR system malfunction.

5. Remove the SIR Fuse.




6. Remove the LH insulator panel.
7. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil connector located at the base of the steering column.
8. Disconnect the steering wheel module coil connector.




9. Remove the LH insulator panel.
10. Remove the CPA from the inflatable restraint IP module connector located to the right of the steering column.
11. Disconnect the I/P module connector.




12. Remove the side impact sensor (SIS)-LF from the center pillar (3).
13. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the SIS-LF connector (2).
14. Disconnect the SIS-LF connector (2) from the SIS-LF (1).

ENABLING PROCEDURE




1. Remove the key from the ignition.
2. Connect the SIS-LF connector (2) to the SIS-LF (1).
3. Install the CPA to the SIS-LF connector (2).
4. Install the side impact sensor (SIS)-LF into the center pillar (3).




5. Connect the I/P module connector.
6. Install the CPA into the I/P module connector located to the right of the steering column.
7. Install the LH insulator panel.




8. Connect the steering wheel module coil connector.
9. Install the CPA from the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil connector located at the base of the steering column.
10. Install the LH insulator panel.




11. Install the SIR Fuse.
12. Install the I/P fuse block cover.
13. Staying well away from all inflator modules, turn ON the ignition.
13.1. The AIR BAG indicator will flash seven times.
13.2. The AIR BAG indicator will then turn OFF.
14. Perform Diagnostic System Check - Restraint Systems if the AIR BAG indicator does not operate as described.
