Carpet Replacement

J 38778 Door Trim Pad and Garnish Clip Remover


Removal Procedure

Caution: In order to avoid personal injury or vehicle damage when you repair or replace the carpet, use the same thickness and material size as the original installation. Always return the carpet to the original location.


1. Remove the front seats. Refer to Seat Replacement (Seat Replacement) in Seats.
2. Remove the rear seat cushion. Refer to Seat Cushion Replacement - Rear (Seat Cushion Replacement - Rear) in Seats.
3. Remove the center console, if equipped. Refer to Console Replacement (Service and Repair) in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.




4. Remove the center pillar garnish moldings (1). Refer to Garnish Molding Replacement - Center Pillar (Garnish Molding Replacement - Center Pillar) .




5. Remove the front sill plate (1) by gently prying upward.




6. Remove the rear sill plate.




7. Disconnect the electrical connectors (4).
8. Using tool J 38778 , remove the carpet retainers (3).
9. Remove the floor carpet (1, 2).



Installation Procedure

Caution: In order to avoid personal injury or vehicle damage when you repair or replace the carpet, use the same thickness and material size as the original installation. Always return the carpet to the original location.






1. Install the floor carpet (1, 2).

Important: Align the carpet correctly. Take the following precautions:


* Ensure that the carpet does not cover any contact points.

* Ensure that the seats have metal-to-metal contact.

* Ensure that the carpeting is lying flat.



2. Install the center consol, if equipped. Refer to Console Replacement (Service and Repair) in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
3. Install the carpet retainers (3).
4. Connect the electrical connectors (4).




5. Install the front sill plate (1).




6. Install the rear sill plate.




7. Install the center pillar garnish moldings (1). Refer to Garnish Molding Replacement - Center Pillar (Garnish Molding Replacement - Center Pillar) .
8. Install the front seats. Refer to Seat Replacement (Seat Replacement) in Seats.
9. Install the rear seat cushion. Refer to Seat Cushion Replacement - Rear (Seat Cushion Replacement - Rear) in Seats.
