Steering Wheel Position Sensor or Steering Shaft lower Bearing Replacement

Removal Procedure

Caution: When performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, the SIR system must be disabled. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling . Failure to observe the correct procedure could cause deployment of the SIR components, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.






1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Service and Repair.
2. Remove the steering column from the vehicle. Refer to Steering Column Replacement Service and Repair.
3. Remove the following from the steering shaft:
3.1 The boot seal (5)
3.2 The steering shaft seal (4)
3.3 The sensor retainer (3)
3.4 The sensor locator (2)
4. Remove the steering wheel position sensor (1). Refer to Steering Wheel Position Sensor Centering Steering Wheel Position Sensor Centering.






5. Remove the adapter and bearing assembly from the steering jacket assembly.

Installation Procedure






1. Install the adapter and bearing assembly to the steering jacket assembly.






2. Install the following onto the steering shaft:
2.1 The steering wheel position sensor (1) Refer to Steering Wheel Position Sensor Centering Steering Wheel Position Sensor Centering.
2.2 The sensor locator (2)
2.3 The sensor retainer (3)
2.4 The steering shaft seal (4)
2.5 The boot seal (5)
3. Install the steering column into the vehicle. Refer to Steering Column Replacement Service and Repair.
4. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Service and Repair.
