Tie Rod End: Service and Repair

Tie Rod End Replacement - Outer

Tools Required
^ J24319-B Universal Steering Linkage Puller

Removal Procedure
1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the tire and wheel.





3. Remove the lock nut (3) from the outer tie rod (1).





4. Loosen the jam nut (2) on the inner tie rod (1).





5. Using J24319-B remove the outer tie rod from the steering knuckle.





6. Remove the outer tie rod (3) from the inner be rod (1).

Installation Procedure





1. Install the outer tie rod (3) to the inner tie rod (1). Do not tighten the jam nut (2).





2. Install the outer tie rod (1) to the steering knuckle (2).

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.





3. Install the outer tie rod lock nut (3).
Tighten the tie rod lock nut to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.) plus an additional 180 degrees.
4. Install the tire and wheel.
5. Lower vehicle.
6. Adjust the toe alignment.
