Accumulator HVAC: Service and Repair
ACCUMULATOR REPLACEMENTTOOLS REQUIRED
J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Recover the refrigerant.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Remove the positive battery cable nut (1) and cable from the underhood fuse block.
4. Disconnect the evaporator hose from the accumulator cover.
5. Remove the accumulator cover.
6. Remove the A/C compressor hose nut from the accumulator.
7. Disconnect the A/C compressor hose from the accumulator.
8. Remove the evaporator hose nut from the accumulator.
9. Remove the evaporator hose from the accumulator.
10. Remove the accumulator from the housing.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Add the proper amount of refrigerant oil to the accumulator.
2. Install the accumulator into the housing.
3. Connect the evaporator hose to the accumulator.
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
4. Install the evaporator hose nut.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).
5. Connect the A/C compressor hose to the accumulator.
6. Install the A/C compressor hose nut.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).
7. Install the accumulator cover.
8. Connect the evaporator hose into the retainer.
9. Install the positive battery cable and nut (1) to the underhood fuse block.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 15 N.m (11 lb ft).
10. Connect the negative battery cable.
11. Recharge the A/C system.
12. Leak test the fittings of the component using the J 39400-A.
