Harmonic Balancer - Crankshaft Pulley: Service and Repair

Crankshaft Balancer Replacement

^ Tools Required
- J 36660-A Torque Angle Meter
- J 37096 Flywheel Holding Tool
- J 38197-A Crankshaft Balancer Remover

Removal Procedure





1. Remove the drive belt.
2. Remove the right front tire and wheel.
3. Use the J 37096 in order to hold the flywheel.





4. Remove the balancer bolt.

Important: Do not separate the pulley from the balancer. Service the pulley and the balancer as an assembly.

5. Use the J 38197-A in order to remove the crankshaft balancer. Attach 1/4 inch bolts to the pulley. Screw the bolts in 1/4 inch.
6. Clean and inspect the crankshaft balancer.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the crankshaft balancer.
Lubricate the seal surface with engine oil.
2. Use the J 37096 in order to hold the flywheel.

Notice: Refer to Special Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

3. Install the crankshaft balancer bolt.
^ Tighten the crankshaft balancer bolt to 150 Nm (111 ft. lbs.). Use the J 36660-A in order to tighten the bolt an additional 76 degrees.
4. Install the right front tire and wheel.
5. Install the drive belt.
6. Perform the CKP system variation learn procedure.
