Battery Cable Replacement (Negative)
REMOVAL PROCEDUREIMPORTANT:
^ Always use replacement cables that are of the same type, diameter and length of the cables that you are replacing.
^ Always route the replacement cable the same way as the original cable.
1. Open the battery negative cable transition block cable protector cover.
2. Disconnect the battery negative cable from the negative battery cable transition block.
3. Disconnect the battery negative cable from the side rail.
4. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
5. Disconnect the battery negative cable from the engine block.
6. Disconnect the electrical harness conduit wire lies from the engine frame.
7. Remove the battery negative cable from the electrical harness conduit.
8. Remove the negative battery cable from the vehicle.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install the battery negative cable into the electrical harness conduit.
2. Connect the electrical harness conduit wire ties to the engine frame.
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
3. Install the bolt securing the battery negative cable to the engine block.
Tighten
Tighten the battery negative cable to engine block bolt to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
4. Lower the vehicle.
5. Install the bolt securing the battery negative cable to the side rail.
Tighten
Tighten the battery negative cable to side rail bolt to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).
6. Connect the battery negative cable to the battery negative cable transition block.
7. Close the battery negative cable transition block cable protector cover.
