Housing Assembly HVAC: Service and Repair

HVAC MODULE ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT

TOOLS REQUIRED
^ J 38185 Hose Clamp Plier
^ J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

REMOVAL PROCEDURE




1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
2. Remove the accumulator and evaporator tube fastener.




3. Disconnect the hose connections at the evaporator.




4. Remove the heater hoses from the heater core using the J 37097-A.
5. Plug the heater core and evaporator openings to prevent leaking into the vehicle when removing module assembly.
6. Pinch off the hoses in order to prevent leaking.




7. Remove the IP assembly.
8. Remove the defroster duct.




9. Disconnect the blower control module (1) connection.
10. Disconnect the instrument panel to A/C module harness connector.




11. Remove the HVAC module retaining nuts (1-5).
12. Remove the HVAC module.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Install the HVAC module.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Install the HVAC module nuts to the dash (1-5). Refer to the illustration for the HVAC module fastener torque sequence.

Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 9 N.m (80 lb in).




3. Connect the blower control module (1) connection.
4. Connect the instrument panel to A/C module connector.




5. Install the defroster duct and the module mounting screws.

Tighten
Tighten the screws to 2.5 N.m (23 lb in).

6. Install the defroster duct to front of dash mounting nut.

Tighten
Tighten the screws to 9 N.m (65 lb in).

7. Install the IP assembly.




8. Connect the heater hoses to the heater core using the J 38185.




9. Connect the evaporator and accumulator tube connections to the evaporator.




10. Install the evaporator tube fastener.

Tighten
Tighten the nut to 24 N.m (18 lb ft).

11. Recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
12. Leak test the component fittings using the J 39400-A.
13. Refill the engine coolant.
