Accumulator HVAC: Service and Repair
ACCUMULATOR REPLACEMENTTOOLS REQUIRED
J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
2. Disconnect the evaporator tube from the retainer.
3. Remove the evaporator tube retainer.
4. Remove the A/C compressor hose to accumulator nut.
5. Disconnect the A/C compressor hose from the accumulator.
6. Disconnect the accumulator tube from the accumulator.
7. Loosen the accumulator tube nut.
8. Remove the accumulator bracket retaining bolt.
9. Remove the accumulator from the vehicle.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Fill the new accumulator with the proper amount of refrigerant oil. Refer to Refrigerant System Capacities.
2. Install the accumulator into the bracket.
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
3. Install the accumulator bracket retaining bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 6 N.m (53 lb in).
4. Connect the accumulator tube to the accumulator.
5. Install the A/C compressor hose to the accumulator.
Tighten
Tighten the accumulator connections to 24 N.m (18 lb ft).
6. Install the evaporator tube retainer.
7. Connect the evaporator tube to the retainer.
8. Recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
9. Leak test the component fittings using the J 39400-A.
