Inflatable Restraint Side Impact Module Replacement

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

CAUTION: Refer to SIR Inflator Module Handling And Storage Caution in Service Precautions.




1. Disable the SIR system.
2. Move the seat to the full forward position.
3. Remove the seat belt post rear cover (1) from the front section (2).




4. Reach under the seat and locate the zipper (1).
5. Unzip the seat cushion cover from the bottom to the top.
6. When unzipped completely, two fasteners holding the inflatable restraint side impact inflator module to the seat will be exposed.

IMPORTANT: Do not remove the center fastener from [1][2]side impact module inflator. If the center fastener is removed, this could cause the side air bag to deploy improperly, or unnecessary air bag system repairs.




7. Remove the two fasteners (1) from the inflatable restraint side impact inflator module. (Top and bottom fasteners only.)

Preliminary, Early Release Information:

8. Remove the inflatable restraint side impact inflator module (1) from the seat (2).
9. Remove the Connector Position Assurance (CPA) (4) from the inflatable restraint side impact inflator module electrical connector (5).
10. Disconnect the electrical connector (5) from the inflatable restraint side impact inflator module (1).

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

IMPORTANT: After a deployment or replacement both retainer fasteners (3, 6) must be replaced, to insure proper inflator module positioning.

Preliminary, Early Release Information:

1. Install a new inflatable restraint retainer push in fastener (6) to the inflatable restraint side impact inflator module (1) when replacing module.
2. Install a new retainer fastener (3) to the seat (2) when replacing the module.
3. Connect the electrical connector (5) to the inflatable restraint side impact inflator module (1).
4. Install the Connector Position Assurance (CPA) (4) to the inflatable restraint side impact inflator module electrical connector (5).
5. Install the inflatable restraint side impact inflator module (1) to the seat (2).

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.




6. Install the two fasteners (1) to the inflatable restraint side impact inflator module.

Tighten
Tighten the inflatable restraint front seat module nuts to 9 N.m (80 lb in).




7. Pull the zipper (1) from the top to the bottom to connect the seat cushion cover together again.




8. Install the seat belt post rear cover (1) to the front section (2).
9. Install the seat to the original position.
10. Enable the SIR system.
