Steering Wheel Replacement

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

- Tools Required
- J 42578 Steering Wheel Puller Legs
- J 1859-A Steering Wheel Puller





1. Disable the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in Air Bags and Seat Belts.
2. Remove the Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Inflator Module - SIR Replacement in Air Bags and Seat Belts.
3. Remove the nut.
4. Note the mark on the steering shaft and the steering wheel in order to ensure proper alignment during installation.
5. Use the J 42578 and the J 1859-A in order to remove the steering wheel.
6. Remove the J 42578 and the J 1859-A from the steering wheel.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE





1. Route the wiring through the steering wheel.
2. Align the mark on the steering wheel with the mark on the shaft.
3. Install the steering wheel.
4. Install the nut.
- Tighten the nut to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).

NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

5. Install the Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Inflator Module - Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) Replacement in Air Bags and Seat Belts.
6. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in Air Bags and Seat Belts.
