Housing Assembly HVAC: Service and Repair
REMOVAL PROCEDURETOOLS REQUIRED
^ J 39500 Air Conditioning Refrigerant Recovery Recycling and Recharging (ACR4) System
^ J 37097-A Hose Clamp Pliers
CAUTION: Refer to SIR Handling Caution in Cautions and Notices.
1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in Restraints.
2. Recover the refrigerant from the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
3. Remove the accumulator and evaporator tube fastener.
4. Disconnect the tube connections at the evaporator.
5. Remove the heater hoses from the heater core using the J 37097-A.
6. Pinch off the hoses in order to prevent leaking.
7. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
8. Remove the drain tube from the A/C module.
9. Remove the steering column from the vehicle.
10. Remove the IP assembly.
11. Remove the defroster duct.
12. Disconnect the [1][2]blower control module (1) connection.
13. Disconnect the instrument panel to A/C module harness connector.
14. Remove the HVAC module retaining nuts (1-5).
15. Remove the HVAC module.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
TOOLS REQUIRED
J 39400-A Electronic Halogen Leak Detector
1. Install the HVAC module.
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
2. Install the HVAC module nuts to the dash (1-5).
Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
3. Connect the [1][2]blower control module (1) connection.
4. Connect the instrument panel to A/C module connector.
5. Install the defroster duct and the module mounting screws.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 2.5 N.m (23 lb in).
6. Install the defroster duct to front of dash mounting nut.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 9 N.m (65 lb in).
7. Install the IP assembly.
8. Install the steering column.
9. Install the heater hoses to the heater core using the J 37097-A.
10. Connect the evaporator and accumulator tube connections to the evaporator.
11. Install the evaporator tube fastener.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 24 N.m (24 lb lb).
12. Install the drain tube to the A/C module.
13. Recover the refrigerant from the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
14. Test the A/C system for leaks using the J 39400-A. Refer to Leak Testing.
15. Refill the engine coolant.
16. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in Restraints.
