Thermostat: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to Intake Manifold.
3. Drain the Cooling System. Refer to Draining and Filling under Cooling System.





4. Disconnect the inlet radiator hose.





5. Remove the thermostat housing.
6. Remove the thermostat (4).
7. Clean the gasket mating surfaces.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the thermostat (4) and gasket (3).
2. Install the thermostat housing (2).

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

3. Install the thermostat housing bolts (1).
^ Tighten the thermostat housing bolts to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).





4. Install the inlet radiator hose.
5. Refill the cooling system.
6. Install the engine cover.
7. Connect the negative battery cable.
^ Tighten the negative battery cable bolt to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.).

8. Install the fuel injector sight shield.
