Case Cover


Removal Procedure

^ Tools Required
- J 23467-360 Engine Support Fixture

Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.





1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Install the J 28467-360.
3. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
4. Remove the left front tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Wheels, Tires and Alignment.
5. Remove the inner splash shield.
6. Remove the tie rod end from the knuckle assembly. Refer to Tie Rod End Replacement Outer - On Vehicle in Steering and Suspension.
7. Remove the stabilizer shaft link from the lower control arm. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement in Steering and Suspension.
8. Remove the ball joint from the steering knuckle. Refer to Lower Ball Joint Replacement in Steering and Suspension.
9. Remove the drive axle from the transmission. Refer to Wheel Drive Shafts Replacement.
10. Remove the pinch bolt from the steering gear intermediate shaft. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in Steering and Suspension.
11. Remove the intermediate shaft from the steering gear. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in Steering and Suspension.
12. Position a transmission jack under the transmission oil pan. Raise the jack until lit supports the transmission.
13. Remove the three frame-to-body bolts on the left side.
14. Lower the transmission jack and the transmission in order to gain access to the case side cover.
15. Remove the transaxle oil cooler hoses at the case. Refer to AT Oil Cooler Hose Replacement.
16. Remove the case side cover bolts.





17. Remove the case side cover.
18. Clean the case and side cover gasket surfaces.


Installation Procedure





1. Install the new gaskets on the case.
2. Install the case side cover.





Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

3. Install the new side cover bolts.
^ Tighten the side cover bolts to 11 Nm (98 inch lbs.).
4. Install the transaxle oil cooler hoses to the transmission. Refer to AT Oil Cooler Hose Replacement.
5. Raise the transmission so that the frame bolts can be installed.
6. Install the three frame-to-body bolts.
^ Tighten the bolts to 112 Nm (83 ft. lbs.).
7. Remove the transmission jack.
8. Install the intermediate shaft to the steering gear and the pinch bolt at the intermediate shaft. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in Steering and Suspension.
9. Install the drive axle to the transmission. Refer to Wheel Drive Shafts Replacement.
10. Install the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Refer to Lower Ball Check Replacement in Steering and Suspension.
11. Remove the drive axle seal protectors.
12. Install the stabilizer shaft link to the lower control arm. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Replacement in Steering and Suspension.
13. Install the tie rod end to the knuckle. Refer to Tie Rod End Replacement - Outer - On Vehicle in Steering and Suspension.
14. Install the inner splash shield.
15. Install the left front tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Wheels, Tires and Alignment.
16. Lower the vehicle.

19. Inspect for leaks.
20. Check the fluid level.
