Harmonic Balancer - Crankshaft Pulley: Service and Repair
TOOLS REQUIRED^ J 37096 Flywheel Holding Tool
^ J 38197 Crankshaft Balancer Puller
^ J 36660 Torque Angle Meter
^ Or equivalent
REMOVAL
1. Use the J 37096 in order to hold the flywheel.
2. Remove the balancer bolt.
NOTE: Do not separate the pulley from the balancer. Service the pulley and the balancer as an assembly.
3. Use the J 38197 in order to remove the crankshaft balancer. Attach 1/4 inch bolts to the pulley. Screw the bolts in 1/4 inch.
INSTALLATION
1. Install the crankshaft balancer. Lubricate the seal surface with engine oil.
2. Use the J 37D96 in order to hold the flywheel.
CAUTION: This bolt is designed to permanently stretch when tightened. The correct part number fastener must be used to replace this type of fastener. Do not use a bolt that is stronger in this application. If the correct bolt is not used, the parts will not be tightened correctly. The system or the components may be damaged.
3. Install the balancer bolt.
^ Tighten the balancer bolt to 150 Nm (111 ft. lbs.).
^ Use the J 36660 in order to tighten the bolt an additional 76°.
