Thermostat: Service and Repair

TOOL REQUIRED
^ J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers





REMOVAL
1. Air cleaner and duct assembly.
2. Partially drain coolant.
3. Radiator hose from thermostat housing.
4. Thermostat housing attaching bolts.
5. Thermostat housing and gasket.
6. Thermostat. Clean gasket mating surfaces.

INSTALLATION
1. Thermostat.
2. Thermostat housing and gasket to intake manifold.
3. Bolts to housing with RTV sealer GM P/N 1052366 (or equivalent). Tighten bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
4. Radiator hose to thermostat housing.
5. Air cleaner and duct assembly.
6. Refill coolant. Inspect for leaks.

NOTE: To properly fill a system that has been completely drained requires the use of the air bleed vents.
