Muffler: Description and Operation

On single exhaust systems, the entire exhaust system (comprised of a resonator, an exhaust pipe, a muffler, and a tailpipe) is serviced with one pre-welded part. On dual exhaust systems, the exhaust system is serviced as five different components which can be clamped together: (1) Exhaust pipe. including resonator (2) Right side muffler (3) Left side muffler (4) Right side tailpipe (5) Left side tailpipe. Always replace the catalytic converter gasket at the flanged joint between the exhaust system and the three way catalytic converter when any service procedure necessitates disrupting this flanged joint. Never reinstall the original catalytic converter gasket.
