Parking Brake Lever: Service and Repair

^ Tool Required:
- J 37043 Parking Brake Cable Release Tool

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Left side instrument panel insulator.
2. Left side carpet retainers.
3. Electrical connector at parking brake indicator switch.
4. Raise and suitably support vehicle.
5. Loosen parking brake cable and equalizer.
6. Lower vehicle.
7. Mounting nuts to parking brake lever.








8. Parking brake lever with cable.
9. Cable button end from lever clevis.
10. Cable from lever using J 37043.





11. Parking brake indicator switch. Refer to PARKING BRAKE INDICATOR SWITCH. Parking Brake Warning Switch

INSTALL OR CONNECT

NOTICE: Always use the correct fastener in the proper location. When you replace a fastener, use ONLY the exact part number for that application. the manufacturer will call out those fasteners that require a replacement after removal. The manufacturer will also call out the fasteners that require thread lockers or thread sealant. UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED, do not use supplemental coatings (paints, greases, or other corrosion inhibitors) on threaded fasteners or fastener joint interfaces. Generally, such coatings adversely affect the fastener torque and the joint clamping force, and may damage the fastener. When you install fasteners, use the correct tightening sequence and specifications. Following these instructions can help you avoid damage to parts and systems.

1. Parking brake indicator switch. Refer to PARKING BRAKE INDICATOR SWITCH. Parking Brake Warning Switch
2. Cable to new parking brake lever.
3. Cable end to lever clevis.
4. Parking brake lever.
5. Parking brake lever mounting nuts.
- Tighten nuts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
6. Electrical connector at parking brake indicator switch.
7. Adjust parking brake. Refer to PARKING BRAKE ADJUSTMENT (DISC OR DRUM). Adjustments
8. Left side carpet retainers.
9. Left side instrument panel insulator.
10. Lower vehicle.
