General Description

The ABS VI regulates the brake pressure at each front wheel and both rear wheels as a pair to reduce the tendency of any wheel to lock-up, thus improving the driver's control of the vehicle during braking. Improved stability and steerability allow the vehicle to be controlled around obstacles during a panic stop. ABS operation is available from approximately 5 km/h (3 mph) to the maximum vehicle speed.

Important: ABS VI CANNOT INCREASE BRAKE PRESSURE ABOVE MASTER CYLINDER PRESSURE APPLIED BY THE DRIVER AND CANNOT APPLY THE BRAKES BY ITSELF.

The Traction Control System (TCS) is optional on 1997 Buick Regal. The ABS with TCS are both part of the same hydraulic and electrical systems. Both systems use many of the same components and a problem in either system may disable the other system until it is repaired. Antilock braking controls wheel slip when braking. The Traction Control System (TCS) provides the capability to control wheel spin at the driven wheel. This improves the ability to maintain vehicle stability and acceleration (drive tractions) under changing road and vehicle load conditions.
