Rocker Arm Assembly: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Remove the rocker arm cover.
2. Remove the rocker arm pedestal retaining bolts.
3. Remove the pedestal.
NOTE: Place the assemblies on a clean surface. Store the components in order. Reassemble the components in the same location and with the same mating surfaces as when removed.
4. Remove the rocker arm assembly.
5. Remove the pushrods.
6. Clean the rocker arms, pushrods and pedestal bolts in a suitable solution.
7. Inspect the rocker arms, pushrods and pedestal bolts for wear.
8. Clean the bolts of all thread adhesive.
INSTALLATION
1. Install the pushrods.
2. Install the rocker arm assembly.
3. Install the pedestal.
CAUTION: This bolt is designed to permanently stretch when tightened. The correct part number fastener must be used to replace this type of fastener. Do not use a bolt that is stronger in this application. If the correct bolt is not used, the parts will not be tightened correctly. The system or the components may be damaged.
4. Apply thread lock compound or the equivalent to the rocker arm bolt threads.
5. Install the rocker arm pedestal retaining bolts. Tighten the bolts to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.) +90 degrees using the Torque Angle Meter.
6. Install the rocker arm cover.
7. Inspect for proper completion of repairs.
8. Listen for valve train noise.
