Brake Pedal Assy: Testing and Inspection

BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL
1. With engine off and key at "OFF" pump service brake pedal until all reserve is exhausted from power booster. (A definite change in pedal feel will occur).
2. Install brake pedal effort gauge J 28662, or equivalent onto brake pedal.
3. Hook end of tape measure over top edge of brake pedal and measure the distance to rim of steering wheel.
4. Apply service brake pedal with 445 N (100 lb.) force and re-measure.
5. Subtract the "at rest" measurement (Step 3) from the "applied" measurement (Step 4). The difference between the two pedal positions is the pedal travel.

NOTE: The pedal travel should not exceed 57 mm (2.24 inches). If pedal travel is greater than specification. Testing and Inspection
