Canister Purge Solenoid: Description and Operation

Evaporative Purge Solenoid Valve Circuit.:

PURPOSE
Allows manifold vacuum to purge fuel vapor canister. Burns stored fuel vapors.

OPERATION
To regulate the canister purge, a PCM controlled electronic vacuum valve solenoid is used. The PCM uses information from various sensors to regulate the solenoid. If the following conditions are met with the engine running, the canister purge solenoid is energized:

^ Engine is warm
^ After engine has been running a specified period of time
^ Above a specified road speed
^ Above a specified throttle opening

LOCATION
The canister purge solenoid is located on the right side of the intake manifold.
