Oil Change Reminder Lamp: Description and Operation
Change Oil Lamp Circuit.:
Purpose:
The PCM monitors the distance the vehicle has traveled, engine coolant temperature and engine revolutions to determine when the next service interval is required.
Once these values are obtained, the PCM illuminates the change oil lamp. The maximum mileage that can be accumulated before the PCM illuminates the lamp is 7,500 miles. The lamp may illuminate sooner depending on engine load and temperatures.
Operation:
The PCM determines when an oil change should take place and supplies a ground signal to the change oil lamp. Thus the lamp illuminates.
Location:
The change oil lamp is located in the instrument panel.
