Filling and Pressure Bleeding Procedure

NOTE:
^ The reservoir must be properly filled to insure correct operating conditions. However, brake fluid addition is not usually necessary unless there is a leak, indicated by the BRAKE indicator, or the system is being serviced.
^ Use only Delco Supreme 11 Brake Fluid or equivalent DOT 3 brake fluid from a clean, sealed container.
^ Thoroughly clean master cylinder reservoir cover before removal to avoid getting dirt in reservoir.

NOTE: Pressure bleeding equipment must be of the diaphragm type. It must have a rubber diaphragm between the air supply and the brake fluid to prevent air, moisture, oil and other contaminants from entering the hydraulic system.

IMPORTANT: The correct master cylinder bleeder adapter must be used to avoid possible damage to the master cylinder reservoirs.

1. Fill master cylinder reservoir to proper level with brake fluid.
2. Install J 35589 to master cylinder.
3. Charge J 29532 to 140-172 kPa (20-25 psi).
4. Connect J 29532 hose to adapter and open the line valve.
5. Raise vehicle and suitably support.
6. If all the wheel circuits must be bled, use the following sequence: RH rear, LH rear, RH front, LH front.
7. Remove bleeder valve cap and place proper size box-end wrench, J 28434, or J 21472 over caliper/cylinder bleeder valve. Attach a transparent tube to bleeder valve and allow tube to hang submerged in a transparent container, partially filled with clean brake fluid.
8. Loosen bleeder valve at least 3/4 turn, and allow fluid to flow until no air is seen in fluid.
9. Tighten wheel cylinder bleeder valves to 7 Nm (62 lbs. ft.).
^ Tighten caliper bleeder valve to 13 Nm (10 lbs. ft.).
10. Repeat steps 7. through 9. until all calipers/cylinders have been bled. Then install bleeder valve caps.
11. Lower vehicle.
12. Check brake pedal for "sponginess."
^ Repeat entire bleeding procedure to correct "sponginess."
13. Remove J 29532 and J 35589.
14. Fill master cylinder to proper level.
15. When pressure bleed is completed, pressure bleed the system using Tech 1 (perform an "Auto Bleed" sequence). The repeat steps 7 through 10.
