Removing/Installing Strut Housing Upper Tie Bar:

Removing/installing Power Steering Pump:

Removing/Installing Reservoir & Hose (Supercharged):

Important
^ On TFE systems, if the pump is to be replaced, be sure to replace the pump with one that is specified for the TFE system. The TFE pump (without its actuator and fitting) looks identical to non-TFE pumps, but the two are not interchangeable.

Remove or Disconnect

1. Strut housing upper tie bar, as needed for access.
2. Pump drive belt(s).
3. On TFE pump, electrical connector.
4. Lower bolt to mounting bracket.
5. Power steering gear outlet and inlet hoses from pump. On supercharged engines, also disconnect remote reservoir hose from pump reservoir.
6. Pump. On supercharged engines, access pump area from beneath the engine. Transfer pulley, as needed.

Install or Connect

Power Steering Gear Inlet Hose Orientation (Non-Supercharged):

Power Steering Hose Routing And Orientation (Supercharged):

1. Hand-start the power steering gear inlet hose connection to pump. Orient hose as shown on illustration.
2. Pump with pulley. On non-supercharged engines, install and torque lower bolt first, and check that a clearance of 2 to 5 mm (0.080 to 0.200 inch) exists between hose and heater pipes as contact may cause noise after installation.
3. Power steering gear outlet hose to pump; hose must be routed outboard and under engine harness and heater hoses.
4. On supercharged engines, re-connect hose from remote reservoir to pump reservoir.

Tighten
^ Power steering gear inlet hose to pump, to 27 N.m (20 lb. ft.).
^ Hose clamp at pump to 1.7 N.m (15 lb. in.).
^ Pump mounting bolts to 27 N.m (20 lb. ft.).

5. On TFE pump, electrical connector.
6. Pump drive belt(s).
7. Strut housing upper tie bar, if removed. Tighten nuts to 25 Nm (18 lb. ft.).
8. Fill and bleed system.

Inspect
^ For leaks.
