Water Pump: Service and Repair

Water Pump:

SPECIAL TOOL REQUIRED (or equivalent)
^ J-28467-A Engine support fixture.

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Negative battery cable.
2. Drain and recover the cooling system.
3. Support engine using J-28467-A.
4. Right engine mount.
5. Loosen coolant pump pulley bolts.
6. Serpentine bolts.
7. Idler pulley.
8. Engine brace.
9. Coolant pump pulley bolts.
10. Coolant pump with pulley attached.
11. Clean coolant pump sealing surfaces.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Coolant pump and pulley as an assembly, and new gasket. Tighten pump to block bolts to 39 Nm (29 ft lbs) and pump to front cover bolts to 11 Nm (97 in lbs).

NOTE: Install pulley bolts but do not tighten until after the serpentine belt has been installed.

2. Engine Brace.
3. Idler pulley.
4. Serpentine belt.
5. Tighten coolant pump pulley bolts to 13 Nm (105 in lbs).
6. Right engine mount.
7. Remove engine support fixture J-28467-A.
8. Negative battery cable.
9. Fill cooling system.
10. Inspect for leaks.
