Oil Pan: Service and Repair
Remove or Disconnect
1. Negative battery cable.
2. Engine torque strut from engine.
3. Raise vehicle and suitably support.
4. Front exhaust pipe from manifold.
5. Right front tire and wheel.
6. Inner fender splash shield.
7. Drain engine oil
8. Oil filter.
9. Oil cooler pipes.
^ Leave pipes loose for access.
10. Engine mount nuts from frame (both front mounts).
11. Flywheel cover.
12. Raise engine assembly at transaxle with transmission jack for access.
13. Oil level sensor connector.
14. Oil pan retaining bolts.
15. Lower oil pan and disconnect oil pump screen assembly.
16. Oil pan and oil pump screen assembly.
Clean
^ Oil pan flanges.
^ Oil pan rail.
^ Front cover.
^ Rear main bearing cap.
^ Threaded holes.
Install or Connect
1. New gasket.
^ Formed rubber oil pan gasket cannot be reused.
Important
^ If the rear main bearing cap is being installed, then GM sealant P/N 1052080 (or equivalent) must be placed on the oil pan gasket tabs that insert into the gasket groove of the outer surface on the rear main bearing cap.
2. Oil pan with oil pump screen assembly to engine, install oil pump screen assembly.
Tighten
^ Screen assembly bolts to 13 N.m (115 lb. in.).
3. Oil pan.
4. Oil pan retaining bolts.
Tighten
^ Bolts to 14 N.m (124 lb. in.).
^ DO NOT overtighten bolts or damage to the oil pan may occur, resulting in an oil leak.
5. Oil level sensor connector.
6. Lower engine assembly.
7. Transaxle converter cover.
8. Engine mount nuts to frame.
9. Oil cooler pipes.
10. Oil filter.
11. Inner fender splash shield.
12. Front tire and wheel.
13. Front exhaust pipe to manifold.
14. Lower vehicle.
15. Engine torque strut to engine.
16. Fill with clean engine oil.
17. Negative battery cable.
Tighten
^ Bolt to 15 N.m (11 lb. ft.).
Inspect
^ Proper fluid levels.
^ For leaks.
