Engine Mount: Service and Repair

TOOLS REQUIRED (or equivalents)
^ J-28467-A, Engine support fixture
^ J-36462, Engine support adapter leg

INSPECTION
Engine mounts are non-adjustable. Broken or deteriorated mounts should be replaced immediately, because of the added strain placed on other mounts and driveline components.

Raise the engine to remove weight from the mounts and to place a slight tension on the rubber. Observe both mounts while raising engine.

Replace a engine mount if it exhibits:
^ Hard rubber surface covered with heat cracks.
^ Rubber separated from metal plate of the mount.
^ Rubber split through center.
^ Fluid leaking from hydraulic mounts.

RIGHT ENGINE MOUNT REMOVAL
1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
2. Raise engine with tools J-28467-A and J-35953.
3. Remove engine mount intermediate bracket to engine mount bolts.
4. Raise vehicle and remove inner fender splash shield.
5. Remove right engine mount to body bolts.
6. Lower vehicle and remove right engine mount.

RIGHT ENGINE MOUNT INSTALLATION
1. Install right engine mount.
2. Raise vehicle.
3. Install right engine mount to body bolts and tighten in sequence to specification.

NOTE: All tightening specifications and sequences for the right engine mount shown in Figure 1.

4. Install inner fender splash shield, then lower vehicle.
5. Install engine mount to body nut and tighten to specification.
6. Install engine mount intermediate bracket to engine mount bolts and tighten to specification.
7. Remove tools J28467-A and J35953.
8. Connect negative battery cable.

ENGINE MOUNT STRUT REMOVAL
1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
2. Raise the vehicle.
3. Remove bolts attaching the engine mount strut to the body and the engine mount strut bracket.
4. Remove engine mount strut.

ENGINE MOUNT STRUT INSTALLATION
1. Install engine mount strut.
2. Install bolts and tighten to specifications shown in Figure 2.
3. Lower the vehicle.
4. Connect negative battery cable.
