Pressure Regulating Solenoid: Service and Repair

Side Cover, Oil Pump And Valve Body:

- Disconnect negative battery cable.
- Disconnect cruise control vacuum hoses at servo.
- Disconnect park/neutral switch harness connector.
- Raise vehicle and suitably support.
- Remove left front wheel and tire.
- Remove inner fender well splash shield.
- Remove tie rod end from steering knuckle assembly.
- Disconnect stabilizer shaft link from lower control arm.
- Disconnect ball joint from steering knuckle.

NOTE: Drive axle seal protector J34754 should be modified and installed on any drive axle prior to service procedures on or near the drive axle. Failure to observe this can result in seal damage and possible joint failure.

- Remove drive axle from transaxle.
- Remove pinch bolt from steering gear intermediate shaft.

WARNING: Failure to disconnect the intermediate shaft from the rack and pinion steering gear can result in damage to the steering gear and/or intermediate shaft. This damage may cause loss of steering control which could result in an accident and possible serious personal injury.

- Remove intermediate shaft from steering gear.
- Position transmission jack under transaxle oil pan and raise until it supports the transaxle.
- Remove the three frame-to-body bolts on the left side.
- Lower the transmission jack and transaxle far enough to access case side cover and bolts.
- Disconnect oil cooler pipes at case.
- Remove case side cover bolts and side cover from transaxle.
- Disconnect solenoid harness as needed.

NOTE: It is not necessary to remove the pump or valve body to remove or replace the transaxle solenoids. Solenoids are retained in the valve body by spring clips. Be careful when removing the TCC solenoid and shift solenoid "A", as there is a valve and spring in the same bore with each of these solenoids.

Transaxle Solenoid And Retainer Clip Locations (valve Body Shown W/Pump Removed) 4T60-E:

- Remove the spring clip retaining the solenoid(s) to be removed and carefully work the solenoid out of its bore.

Reverse procedure to install. Always use new gaskets and tighten case side cover bolts to 9 - 13Nm (80 - 115 lb.in.)
