SUBJECT: 2.5L ENGINE SURGE (NEW EGR VALVE AND PROM)

MODELS AFFECTED: 1989 SKYLARKS WITH 2.5L ENGINES


THIS BULLETIN HAS BEEN REVISED TO CHANGE THE PROM I.D. NUMBER. PLEASE DISCARD BULLETIN 89-6E-23 AND 89-6E-23A (CORPORATION NO. 936525R). THE PROM IN 89-6E-23 WOULD NOT ALLOW THE CRUISE CONTROL LIGHT TO COME ON.

Some owners of 1989 Skylarks may comment of a highway engine surge


condition. This condition may be repaired with the installation of a new


EGR Valve Package, P/N 17112238 (which contains EGR valve, P/N 17090078 and


a gasket). A new Calibration PROM must be installed with the EGR valve


package as a set. The new Calibration PROM is identified as follows.
