MINIMUM OIL FILTER CLEARANCE 1989 SKYHAWKS WITH 2.0 (VIN CODE 1)


MODELS AFFECTED:
1989 SKYHAWK WITH AUTO TRANSMISSIONS


On some vehicles there may be a reduced clearance condition between the oil filter and the right drive axle inner boot clamp.

If such a condition is noticed, it may be repaired by replacing the right drive axle inner boot clamp with an "earless" clamp, P/N 7847740. Kent Moore seal clamp pliers #J35566 must be used to install the new clamp. Refer to Section 4D in the Service Manual for installation procedure.

Parts are expected to be available on September 11, 1989. Until then normal part orders will not be accepted by GMSPO. Only verifiable emergency VIP orders will be accepted. SPO will make every effort to obtain parts. All parts will be placed on 400 control to waive VIP surcharges. However, the part will be shipped premium transportation at dealer's expense. All other order types will be canceled as incorrectly ordered while the 400 control is in place.
