SERVICE MANUAL UPDATE - SECTION 3F, STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS, (NEW SERVICE PROCEDURE)
MODELS AFFECTED:
1989 REGALS EQUIPPED WITH UK3 STEERING WHEEL RADIO CONTROLS
The following steering wheel accessory controls procedures should be used when servicing these parts.
NOTICE:
WHEN FASTENERS ARE REMOVED, ALWAYS REINSTALL THEM AT THE SAME LOCATION FROM WHICH THEY WERE REMOVED. IF A FASTENER NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, USE THE CORRECT PART NUMBER FOR THAT APPLICATION. IF THE CORRECT PART NUMBER IS NOT AVAILABLE, A FASTENER OF EQUAL SIZE AND STRENGTH (OR STRONGER) MAY BE USED. FASTENERS THAT ARE NOT REUSED, AND THOSE REQUIRING THREAD LOCKING COMPOUND WILL BE CALLED OUT. THE CORRECT TORQUE VALUE MUST BE USED WHEN INSTALLING FASTENERS THAT REQUIRE IT. IF THE ABOVE CONDITIONS ARE NOT FOLLOWED, PARTS OR SYSTEM DAMAGE COULD RESULT.

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Horn pad by gently pulling up on the pad assembly.
2. Electrical connection from module.
3. Retaining screws.
4. Module
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Module
2. Retaining screws.
3. Electrical connection to module.
4. Horn pad by gently pushing it into the steering wheel.
STEERING WHEEL CONTROL ASSEMBLY
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Use a thin blade screwdriver at either edge of the control assembly and gently pry it loose from the steering wheel. Do not remove at this point.
2. Horn pad, refer to "Module" in this section.
3. Electrical connection from module.
4. Electrical connection in steering column.
5. Steering wheel control assembly from steering wheel.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Electrical connection in steering column.
2. Steering wheel control assembly by gently pushing it into the steering wheel.
3. Electrical connection to module.
4. Horn pad, refer to "Module" in this section.
BULBS
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Steering wheel control assembly, refer to "Steering Wheel Control Assembly" in this section.
2. Use a thin blade screwdriver to turn the bulb about 1/8 turn counterclockwise and pull out.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Bulb using a thin blade screwdriver to turn the bulb about 1/8 turn clockwise.
2. Steering wheel control assembly, refer to "Steering Wheel Control Assembly" in this section.
BUTTONS
The buttons on this steering wheel control assembly are not serviceable and should be sent to an AC/Delco repair facility.
MAINTAINING HORN OPERATION (CONTROL REMOVED)
The removal of the steering wheel control assembly does not effect the operation of the horns.
ELECTRICAL DIAGNOSIS
For electrical diagnosis, refer to Electrical Diagnosis (Section 8A-150-0).
For operation of the steering wheel control assembly refer to Radio Systems and Antennas (Section 9A).
