Cylinder Head Replacement - Right Side

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Negative battery cable.
2. Drain cooling system.
3. Raise vehicle.
4. Exhaust pipe at crossover.
5. Lower vehicle.
6. Torque struts at engine.
7. Coolant recovery reservoir.
8. Rotate engine.
9. Exhaust crossover heat shield.
10. Crossover at right manifold.
11. Right exhaust manifold.
12. Spark plug wires at right head.
13. Valve cover.
14. Intake manifold and plenum.
15. Pushrods (intake and exhaust pushrods are different lengths; intake pushrods are marked orange, exhaust pushrods are marked blue).
16. Cylinder head bolts.
17. Cylinder head.

CLEAN
^ Gasket surfaces on the cylinder head, cylinder block and the intake manifold.
^ Cylinder block bolt threads.
^ Cylinder head bolts.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Place the gasket in position over the dowel pins with the note "This Side Up" showing.
2. Cylinder head.

Head Torque Sequence:




3. Coat the cylinder head bolt threads with GM sealer (p/n 1052080) or equivalent, and install bolts.
Tighten
^ Head bolts in sequence to proper torque as illustrated.
4. Intake gasket.
5. Pushrods loosely retained with rocker arms (install correct length pushrods).
^ Intake pushrods are marked orange.
^ Exhaust pushrods are marked blue.
^ Make sure pushrods seat in lifter.
6. Rocker arm nuts.
7. Intake manifold and plenum.
8. Valve covers.
9. Spark plug wires.
10. Right exhaust manifold.
11. Exhaust crossover at right manifold.
12. Crossover heat shield.
13. Return engine to proper position.
14. Coolant recovery reservoir.
15. Torque struts.
16. Raise vehicle.
17. Exhaust at crossover.
18. Lower vehicle.
19. Fill cooling system.
20. Negative battery cable.
