B660
Code B660:
Cruise Control Circuit:
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION:
Code B660 will set if the cruise control is engaged and the BCM detects that the gear selector is in Park, Reverse, or Neutral. This is done by the BCM based on the ECM's input for park and neutral and by CKT 24 feeding directly to the BCM for reverse gear status ("HI" on CKT 24 indicates Reverse). During the time the failure is present, the BCM will disengage the cruise control.
TEST DESCRIPTION: Numbers below refer to circled numbers on the diagnostic chart.
1. BCM input BI24 displays reverse gear status, as "HI" or "LO" depending on the voltage state at the BCM. The display should read "HI" only when the transaxle is in Reverse gear. If it reads "HI" in any other gear selection the switch must be misadjusted, or CKT 24 (including the switch) is shorted to voltage.
2. ECM input EI74 displays P/N gear status, as "HI" or "LO" depending on the voltage state at the ECM. The display should read "LO" only when the transaxle is in Park or Neutral. If it reads "LO" in any other gear selection the switch must be misadjusted, or CKT 343 (including the switch) is shorted to ground.
3. Checks to see if the short to ground reading is due to the switch or the circuit.
NOTE ON INTERMITTENTS:
This code was designed to prevent cruise control operation when the vehicle is not in a forward gear. This code can be set if the operator selects Neutral, when the cruise control is engaged. This will cause the cruise to drop out until the operator reengages the cruise. If the operator describes this condition but did not move the gear selector out of the forward gears, check adjustment of the gear selector switch, and CKT 24 for intermittent shorts to voltage, and CKT 434 for intermittent short to ground.
