5 SPD Manual Transaxle Replacement

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.

2. Install suitable engine support fixture and raise engine just enough to relieve pressure from engine mounts.

3. Remove left hand instrument panel sound insulator, then disconnect clutch push rod from clutch pedal.

4. Remove air cleaner to throttle body duct assembly.

5. Remove clutch slave cylinder from transaxle and position aside with hydraulic lines attached.

6. Remove power steering pump and brackets and position aside with hoses attached.

7. Disconnect shift cables at transaxle.

8. Remove upper transaxle mount bracket bolts from transaxle.

9. Raise and support vehicle.

10. Remove front wheel and tire assemblies, then remove left inner splash shield.

11. Drain lubricant from transaxle, then disconnect speedometer cable or electrical connector.

12. Remove radiator outlet pipe from transaxle.

13. Remove engine mount crossmember retaining nuts from left hand suspension support.

14. Remove stabilizer shaft support from left suspension support and control arm.

15. Remove left suspension support attaching bolts, position assembly aside and support with wire.

16. Disconnect left hand drive axle from transaxle and position aside.

17. Remove transaxle lower mount bolt, then remove transaxle mount through bolt.

18. Remove engine rear mount bracket from engine block.

19. Remove stabilizer shaft from right control arm.

20. Separate ball joint from strut assembly.

21. Disconnect right driveshaft from Intermediate shaft and position aside.

22. Remove intermediate shaft to block retainer, then remove intermediate shaft.

23. Remove flywheel housing cover.

24. Support transaxle axle using a suitable jack.

25. Disconnect battery ground cable from transaxle, then remove remaining transaxle to engine bolts and spacer and stud.

26. Remove transaxle assembly from vehicle.

27. Reverse procedure to install.
