Date: Mar. '88

Ref. No.: 88-096-8

Corp. Ref. No.: 878103
SUBJECT: QUAD-4 ENGINE HARNESS (ALTERNATOR/ FUEL INJECTOR BRANCH) ROUTING REVISION

MODELS AFFECTED: 1988 SKYLARKS WITH THE 2.3L QUAD-4 ENGINE (VIN CODE D)

Some Skylarks with the LD2 Quad-4 engine may experience one or more of the following conditions:

- A "Check Engine" Light
- An ECM Failure
- Rough Running Engine
- An Inoperative Fuel Pump
- An Inoperative Alternator
- An Inoperative A/C Compressor
- White Smoke from the Exhaust

FIGURE 1:

Any of these conditions may be caused by a shorted engine wiring harness (alternator/fuel injecter branch) which has rubbed against the alternator and/or is contacting the cooling fins on the alternator pulley (See Figure 1).

FIGURE 2:

To address any of these conditions, repair the harness and install a conduit Tee, Part Number 12020308, to hold the injecter leads on the inboard side as shown in Figure 2.
Cars built after VIN JM023210 had the conduit tee installed on the production line.
