Positive Crankcase Ventilation Valve: Service and Repair
PCV System:
Crankcase Ventilation Valve Cross Section:
INSPECTION
The Positive Crankcase Ventilation ([1][2]PCV) system should be checked every 15,000 miles and also during regular engine tune-ups. If the PCV system includes a breather filter, located in the air cleaner housing, this filter should be replaced whenever the PCV valve or air cleaner is replaced.
CAUTION: An engine which is operated without any crankcase ventilation can be damaged.
Periodically, inspect the hoses and clamps and replace any showing signs of deterioration. When a periodic inspection indicates the [1][2]PCV is not functioning properly, it should be serviced by replacement only.
